With a unique paw-like stability shank, plenty of Zoom Air cushioning, and a sleek shape, these would look right at home on a WNBA court in 2014.Ĭhris Webber’s most well-known signature models include his beefy Nike Air Max variations and, to a lesser extent, the Dada CDubbz. However, the Zoom Swoopes model is often overlooked and we can’t begin to figure out why. Named by Nike as one of their most iconic basketball shoes, the Air Swoopes was groundbreaking in more ways than one. Many fans probably remember Sheryl Swoopes’ first signature model, the stability strap equipped Air Swoopes from 1996. Yeah, some things are better left forgotten. The trend came and went within the blink of an eye, but not before Dada did what any sensible sneaker company would do and made a pair of shoes complete with “rims” that keep spinning when you stop running. From choking out his coach to a handful of off-court antics, Sprewell was also synonymous with the spinning rims of luxury vehicles. Latrell Sprewell was one of the most talked about players of the late ‘90s, but usually for all the wrong reasons. Unfortunately, competition from industry titans like Nike, Reebok, and adidas spelled the demise of LA Gear’s hoops line. Karl Malone’s Catapult model is the perfect example, with its supportive high cut and Power Feedback System, which was like an enhanced version of Nike Air. Don’t get it twisted though, because they were making some serious noise on the hardwood as well. LA Gear sneakers are most often associated with the light-up LED styles of our youth. Its one-piece upper is a design cue that has become commonplace in today’s sneakers, and we’d love to see these back on shelves. Released during the height of Nike’s ultra-innovative Alpha Project, the Zoom GP II is one of those sneakers that just looks quick. That model, along with the Zoom GP1, featured a lockdown sheath which covered the laces, but the GP II let them loose. Last year, Nike Sportswear fulfilled the wishes of many hoops fans when they brought back the Zoom Flight The Glove. The only thing that the Converse All-Star Rodman had in common with the original All-Star model was its logo badge, accented by a tattoo-inspired tribal sun on the Worm’s version. With a reputation that could amount to a nightmare for any PR team, Dennis Rodman left the Swoosh for Converse in the mid-‘90s, and the result was a sneaker as bold and stylish as the man himself. Although details are sketchy, this black/purple colorway was said to be a Euro-only release, but there’s no doubt that it’d be a hit in the States in 2014.īad as he wanna be. 1994’s Rogue 2 is a perfect example, with its Air Jordan VII-like lockdown straps and neoprene inner bootie. Believe it or not, there’s still plenty of unearthed greatness at their fingertips. Since their return, the brand has been dedicated to producing accurate re-releases of their most popular ‘90s styles, including the 33 Hi, Guard, and Focus. Unlike the previous 29 Air Jordan designs, it’s the first Air Jordan sneaker since the inaugural one to incorporate the Swoosh logo along the side of the shoe. This week, Nike will unveil the Air Jordan 31, its newest statement-level annual game shoe that will be worn by Jimmy Butler and Carmelo Anthony at the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. He stylishly wore them once, while wearing gold necklaces, in the 1985 Slam Dunk Contest, and opted instead for his still-brash white, red and black shoes for the remainder of his rookie year and into his second season. The problem: he never wore the shoes in question during an official game. Nike has often said that Jordan was fined $5,000 per game for wearing the black and red Air Jordan 1 on court, a fine that the brand gladly paid. While marketing lore would tell you the Air Jordan 1 was the barrier-breaking sneaker that “brought color to the game,” the debut signature shoe was actually still being finalized at the time. He’d later jokingly describe the black and red shoes as having “devil colors.” Rather than go along with the tame white and red sneakers that his fellow Bulls took to the court, Jordan donned a black and red edition of the Nike Air Ship for his sixth preseason game, a marquee exhibition matchup at Madison Square Garden against the New York Knicks. “It’s like a young kid, when your parents say you can’t do something, you want to do it,” Jordan explained in a recent promotional video. The rule was finally lifted in the late 2000s. NBA policy mandated that each player “must wear shoes that not only matched their uniforms, but matched the shoes worn by their teammates.” That policy led to the “51 percent rule” – shoes had to be 51 percent white and in accordance with what the rest of the team was wearing. Yes, at the time that was the reality of the league. Before the flood of innovations and gimmicks, the biggest sneaker story to hit the NBA came in 1984, when a certain Chicago Bulls rookie defiantly disobeyed the league’s shoe-color rules. Do you really need a dozen wine glasses if there are only two adults at home? Do you also really need a food processor, a blender, a juicer, a slow cooker and a mixer? Now, some may not consider cookware and tableware as clutter because they’re functional. ![]() Not only does this give us an opportunity to discard any expired food, but it reminds us to only purchase what we really need! 3- Minimise cookware and tableware Before we stock up on groceries, we usually conduct a full sweep of our fridge and drawers. Having less space encourages us to live as minimally as possible. Since we don’t have a pantry in our condo, we allocated two drawers to store our food items. This practice helps to prevent food wastage too! Create lists for grocery shopping and replenish weekly. I’m definitely guilty of leaving around one too many ripped cereal boxes! There was an RFC discussion in CakePHP around the same issue, as direct result of a bug that would never have been there if the above was applied properly. That includes in_array() by the way, one of the functions probably most (framework and project) bugs have been discovered the last months due to this implicit casting issue leading to false positives. There also many buggy comparison cases around the 0 integer and a reason more to try to be more strict in general wherever possible. Declare them as null first if you conditionally populate them somewhere.īear in mind here, that 0 and '0' would not work with either way and in that case you need to be strict in your checks anyway. Usually variables should not just sometimes exist. Identical (but maybe we also don't need the !empty here?) I also often see the redundancy that makes no sense: // Bad Examples Method arguments public function read($key, $context = null) Let’s look into more concrete examples now. Luckily IDEs these days provide a lot more help than a few years ago, but there is still lot of room for error. Only ever use empty()/ isset() if that is not possible, that means if there is a chance that the variable or attribute could be not set at this point in time.īut for variables and attributes you might want to ask yourself it that is maybe not a code smell after all if you do not know that for certain. The basic rule is: Always prefer non-silent checks.Īlso always try to compare with = checks and expect the variable or attribute to be declared at run-time. This should never be used though as this can have side-effects depending on the implementation of the class and is absolutely not necessary. Since PHP 5.5+ it is now even possible to check expressions and more, so !empty($this->foo()) would be possible. Since this one piece of code didn’t have a test for it, it also remained dormant for a very long time. The class attribute $compiledRoute was renamed, but a single use of that one was checked with !empty(), so that part of the code inside this check became unreachable and dead forever. There was an actual bug in the CakePHP framework because of this. Now, that sounds like "so who cares" – but it in fact has quite some impact in the correctness of code, especially when refactoring is involved. If it exists it also checks of the content is not empty or set.Checks if that variable exists at this point in time, if not silently bail early. The main problem is that it does two things at the same time: I have seen this in many frameworks,Īnd in retrospective also in my own code for quite some time. Very often people abuse empty()/ !empty() and isset()/ !isset() where they shouldn’t. In this case simply using the correct way of checkingįor variable content can avoid quite a few bugs in the long run. Sometimes it is the small things than can make all the difference. This is another part of the series "How to write better PHP code". ![]() Keep in mind that these batteries can only be charged so many times before they no longer perform at an optimal level. Leave with rubber lines still submerged in brake fluid for 10mins (go bleed the BMC to HMC feed line) Keep going until you do 5 in-and-out strokes with no bubbles. There will be a lot of air at the start as the rubber lines expel their air Place both hands on screw driver and slowly work in and out Screw the handbrake handle fitting onto the plunger and slide a screwdriver through the holes (may be different for non PSM handbrakes) This is to ensure any mildly aerated fluid (which floats to the top) is not sucked into the MC Put both ends of the lines in the water bottle but ensure they are at least 20mm from the surface. Put rubber lines on the fittings, clamp them up tight Cut the top off an empty clear water bottle Put the master cylinder in a vice, ensure it is level But as both ports draw and feed on either the inward or outward stroke using a clear jar as a reservoir means it can still be done. Traditional bench bleeding doesn’t really work due to the lack of a reservoir. The amount of fluid the system can move can be extreme.īench bleeding a Handbrake Master Cylinder: Forcing fluid into the HMC will push air out of the MC better than the plunger drawing in fresh fluid. After tightening up the bleed screw after bleeding a calliper, do not pull the handbrake back up, pump it up using the footbrake. If you have some resistance then they are plumbed correctly and just require more bleeding. If the HMC goes straight to the bottom you either have lots of air in the lines (unlikely) or the lines are around the wrong way (assuming you have the cap off the BMC reservoir). This will help any air trapped in the HMC to be pushed out. Once you’ve bled both rear callipers, bleed both using the handbrake. Start bleeding the full system on the foot brake and do not touch the handbrake. ![]() Once all lines and the HMC are connected, bleed the output line from the HMC to the factory rear brake line using only the foot brake. Ensure the end of the line is submerged in some brake fluid to avoid it sucking air back in as the pedal comes up. Foot bleed the HMC feed line (from the BMC) into a jar in the car before fitting it to the HMC. If during the bench bleeding you see fluid seeping from a fitting, or can hear bubbles entering, then tighten fitting gradually. Do not overtighten fittings – remember the threads are small and not very long. You can detect leaks easily during this process as you will hear them. Ensure all your HMC fittings are attached (adaptors, 90degrees, etc) and that the bleeding hoses are secured tightly on the fittings via clamps. Rekit your rear callipers if you can – fresh seals will give the pistons the best chance of moving freely Here are some hard and fast truths if your handbrake does not lock the rear wheels. I’ve seen some of the advice given online and a lot of it is bogus. I went with a full PSM kit hoping to avoid some of the other issues but the bleeding has been horrendous. In order to help others I’ve decided to post up my learnings. Bleeding a hydraulic handbrake can either be painless, or a source of never ending problems.
